The registration deadline for applicants not asking for financial support to the 22nd International Workshop on Computational Physics and Materials Science: Total Energy and Force Methods, which will take place at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy, from January 8 to 10, 2025.
The new registration deadline is November 14.
Please register through the ICTP platform as indicated on the conference website https://indico.ictp.it/event/10815 .
The “Total Energy” is a renowned workshop about recent progress in electronic structure methods and their applications. It has been held traditionally in Trieste every two years since the 80s and become one of the most popular regular events of the international ab initio electronic structure community. The goal of the workshop is to provide a broad view of recent developments, current challenges, and future directions of the field.
The program features focused sessions on novel functionals, theory and applications of machine learning, correlated materials and excited states, electron-phonon coupling, materials design and discovery, applications and materials platform for quantum computing, time-dependent and out-of-equilibrium phenomena, and more.
The workshop will also include poster sessions, a memorial session on semiconductors & ferroelectrics honoring late Prof. Alfonso Baldereschi, and a moderated discussion on current challenges in the field.
The conference will feature talks from a distinguished list of invited speakers, including:
- Federica Agostini, University Paris-Saclay (France)
- Raffaello Bianco, University of Modena e Reggio Emilia (Italy)
- Giuseppe Carleo, EPFL (Switzerland)
- Gábor Csányi, University of Cambridge (UK)
- Maria Chatzieleftheriou, Goethe University Frankfurt (Germany)
- Nicola Colonna, Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland)
- Tommaso Chiarotti, Caltech (USA)
- Giulia Galli, University of Chicago (USA)
- Vikram Gavini, University of Michigan (USA)
- Leeor Kronik, Weizman Institute (Israel)
- Roxane Margine, Binghamton University (USA)
- Nisanth Nair, IIT Kanpur (India)
- Maria Clelia Righi, University of Bologna (Italy)
- Mariana Rossi, Max Planck Hamburg (Germany)
- Gianluca Stefanucci, University of Rome Tor Vergata (Italy)
- Massimiliano Stengel, ICREA (Spain)
- QuanSheng Wu, Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (China)
- Claudio Zeni, Microsoft Research AI4Science (UK)
In addition to these invited talks, a limited number of contributed abstracts will be selected for upgrade to invited presentations.
The conference will also host the ceremony for the Walter Kohn Prize 2024 (Walter Kohn Prize 2024 Announced | ICTP) that is awarded to Prof. Rafael Gonzalez Hernandez (Universidad del Norte, Colombia) for his ground-breaking work in uncovering the physics and properties of altermagnetism and for his ab initio predictions of related effects in real materials.
We look forward to welcoming you to Trieste!
Best regards,
The organizers
